What is tradeability?
Tradeability.ca is a collaborative effort between community partners in Durham Region. Led by the Durham Region Local Training Board this local project has been ongoing since 2003. Tradeability provides a single point of access and referral for information on careers in the skilled trades. The project is funded by Employment Ontario and in part by the Government of Canada.

Future Building 2009
Over 6,000 participants attended the three day Ontario Construction Secretariat Future Building 2009 event in Bowmanville from April 7th to 9th, 2009. More than 15 construction trade unions exhibited their trades and encouraged students, career seekers and teachers to explore them through participation.
Tradeability.ca was there and with the help of the following community partners we were able to provide information on the apprenticeship program, Job Connect, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), women in the trades and assessment services in Durham Region. Thanks to: Durham College, John Howard Society of Durham Region, Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre, Northern Lights of Canada, YMCA Employment and Community, Durham District School Board, Moxie Trades, A.G. Simpson Action Centre and Kristine Smiles. Special thanks to Moxie Trades for donating the pink hard hat and pink tool belt, they certainly created a lot of interest to the females who attended the event!
We had an opportunity to speak with the various exhibitors and overall the atmosphere was optimistic about opportunities in the trades. One of the factors that will affect the level of growth and opportunities will be the timing of federal and provincial infrastructure funding.
