Industrial filters keep air quality within compliance levels. They and industrial bag filters also provide a means of capture for reclaiming end product that can reduce the cost of process materials. In addition, an efficient filtration system and filters reduce the cost of raw materials used in industrial processes. Facility and plant managers are required to maintain compliance with environmental regulations to protect workers from airborne industrial processing contaminants which, even in micro sizes, can be inhaled.

Tracking exceedance of allowable levels of particulate in airstreams is the job of regulatory agencies. Each industrial facility is required to keep records of non-compliance and report these to the proper authorities. Industrial filtration also provides optimal protection from processing particulate escaping into local airstreams which causes an increase in air pollution.

Every day, manufacturers and industrial facilities maintain production levels in high volume. Normal use of industrial equipment emits certain odors and/or dust that need to be contained to improve air quality indoors and outdoors. Industrial filters prove most successful in particulate capture. This is the basic importance of using bag filters on industrial equipment.

Industrial Filters Efficiency

Bag filters are manufactured with specific efficiency ratings. This helps end users to determine the level of efficiency they can expect from the specific type of filter and its relationship to particulate capture process.  Industrial bag filters vary in efficiency due to the type of coating used as the filtration media. For example, some bag fabrics need to be moderately porous to avoid clogging of process materials filtered. Other fabric filters need density due to the type of processing and need for higher levels of product purity.

Generally, filter bag material provides a 99% efficiency rating for common industrial processing. However, these bags should be changed regularly to ensure the manufactured efficiency rating is maintained. In many industrial facilities, it is important to monitor filter bag capacity according to the facility’s daily throughput and also the rate of capture per hour/per day.

Understanding Fabric Filter Specifications

In order to exact maximum efficiency and effectiveness from filters, it is necessary to understand all of the fabric filter specifications and compare them to the industrial process. The most significant factor in filter specifications is the type of process and compatibility with the filtration unit.

Some baghouses are manufactured with mechanical shakers to keep the contents of industrial bags from settling. These are generally supported by rings. There are also reverse jet (pulse jet) and reverse air baghouses equipped with cage supports to hold bags in place. These baghouses usually have a venturi that measures the flow rate of the air and particulate entering the unit and bags.
